sacrosanct

Thank Heaven for blue jeans.
Thank Heaven for cold days.
For breezes like peppermint:
Sweet, smacking of cold-snap.

Thank heaven for round words
that taste like chocolate truffles.
And sacrosanct phrases
Like a sacred breath.

Thank Heaven for old books.
Thank Heaven for red leaves.
For voices like silver:
Smooth, salient, slicing.

Thank heaven for soft sweaters,
Of mornings of tea and waffles.
And sweet expectation
Of such ransomed death.

Thank Heaven for days of sweetness,
Thank Heaven they won’t last long.
For dear Heaven, when You take me to You,
Let these hands be rough with Your work,
Let these lungs still sing Your songs!

Oh sweet heaven, Hallelujah.
