The Lord of Blessing

Numbers 6:22-27

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 23 “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them,

24 The LORD bless you and keep you;
25 the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
26 the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
27 “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”

The nature of the Lord is revealed here in the blessing that He commands to be given by His Name. The Lord – it is from Him that blessing pours out. It is He who keeps us. It is a glorious thing to have His face shine upon us! It is a blessing all on its own and something our souls should desire desperately. It is He who is gracious, and who is the only true giver of graciousness. It is He whose countenance gives us peace beyond our understanding. This is our Lord. This is our Yahweh.
